Today’s leading stablecoin issuer, Tether, is in the final stages of relocating its operations to El Salvador, following the successful acquisition of a Digital Asset Service Provider (DASP) license. This move is seen by the company as an important step in Tether’s ongoing efforts to support the adoption of digital currencies, placing the company in a jurisdiction with a growing focus on digital assets and technological innovation.

El Salvador has increasingly positioned itself as a hub for digital assets, with policies that encourage the use of Bitcoin and a regulatory environment that is generally favourable to blockchain-based technologies. The country’s Bitcoin-friendly policies and emerging community of Bitcoin users, along with its broader commitment to blockchain, make it a noteworthy location for companies like Tether that aim to promote financial inclusion through digital currencies.

Tether’s decision to establish a base in El Salvador aligns with the company’s broader goals of promoting Bitcoin adoption and supporting financial inclusion in emerging markets. By operating in a jurisdiction that is exploring innovative financial solutions, Tether is well-placed to contribute to and benefit from a dynamic environment conducive to technological development.

“We are pleased to establish a presence in El Salvador, a country that shares our vision for financial innovation and accessibility,” said Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether. “This move reflects our ongoing commitment to expanding our reach in emerging markets, where digital currencies can offer new pathways for financial inclusion. El Salvador provides a supportive environment where collaboration and innovation can thrive.”

Tether hopes their relocation to El Salvador is expected to facilitate closer cooperation with El Salvador’s government, businesses, and communities, contributing to the development of future financial technologies and advancing the adoption of decentralised systems.
