We are pleased to announce that the Nottingham Business School (NBS) has joined the Digital Pound Foundation (DPF) as a partner. NBS collaborates with universities and commercial partners globally to deliver leading research and innovative solutions that positively impact communities worldwide. Through its Centre for Finance, Technology, and Society, as well as its Accounting and Finance Research Group, the school’s research expertise in financial technologies and their implications for payments, financial systems, and consumer behaviour, positions it at the forefront of this rapidly evolving domain.

This collaboration will focus on areas of mutual interest with a particular emphasis on investigating consumer adoption of central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) in the UK, exploring factors such as trust, perceived value, usability, and the broader societal and economic impacts of a potential digital pound. The partnership will also examine the evolving digital money and payments ecosystem, addressing opportunities and challenges for consumers, businesses, and policymakers as well as collaborating on roundtables and policy outreach on CBDC use cases.

Commenting on the partnership, Dr Martin Jones, Head for the Accounting and Finance Department of NBS said: “We are thrilled to be a partner of the Digital Pound Foundation, which aligns perfectly with our mission to lead research in the rapidly evolving fields of digital money and finance. As CBDCs gain traction globally, and with the BoE entering the design phase of a potential Digital Pound, understanding the perspectives and needs of key stakeholders is essential for designing CBDCs that are trusted, inclusive, and widely adopted. Through this partnership, we aim to generate actionable insights and contribute to the responsible development of these technologies, ensuring that they meet the needs of individuals, businesses, and the wider economy. This partnership underscores Nottingham Business School’s commitment to addressing real-world challenges and shaping the future of digital finance.”

Claire Conby, Executive Director and Operations and Innovation Lead, Digital Pound Foundation added:

“As the Digital Pound Foundation continues to align its (CBDC) work with the Bank of England’s ongoing explorations —particularly the recently announced design phase—we are delighted to welcome NBS to the DPF community as a partner. Exploring real-world use cases, commercial opportunities, and the practical implications of a CBDC is essential in determining whether a UK digital pound would truly benefit the economy. Ensuring that a CBDC is well-designed, fit for purpose, and delivers meaningful value remains at the heart of this exploration. We look forward to collaborating with NBS to drive these discussions forward.”
